HOMICIDE AND MURDER LAWYER
Every year, more than 50 women die at the hands of their partners or ex-partners. The sad truth is that the number of deaths has surpassed one thousand since the year 2003.
However, within domestic abuse situations, men are also murdered by their wives, and homicides take place between LGTBQ relationships which are not included in the gender-based violence official statistics.
These offences are the most severe crimes a person can commit, and that is why in Spain the Law establishes that they must be tried by a jury.
WHAT TO DO IF…
When a homicide or murder takes place in a partnership, it’s often the last blow in a long pattern of abusive that hasn’t been curbed.
It started off with just insults and denigration, went on to increasingly intensive threats, until one day you were assaulted. And then that became frequent to. Minor injuries turned into more serious bodily harm, and then finally led to homicide or murder.
So many deaths could be avoided if only abuse were stopped in its tracks sooner. That is why reporting abuse in its early stages is so important, to end a potentially dangerous situation which can end in one person killing their partner.
EXAMPLES OF CASES OF HOMICIDE AND MURDER
My husband has been beating me for years, but he only hits really hard when I’ve done something wrong. I don’t think I deserve it, but I know he’s under a lot of pressure at work. I have learned to live with it, and I’d rather put up with it for my kids’ sake and not rock the boat.
I used to like having a drink with friends, but whenever I came back home my wife was anxious and would start shouting. One day, she hit me with a glass ashtray and I blacked out. I try to make sure she never sees me with any female co-workers, because I know she doesn’t take it too well and when we’re back at home she shouts and hits me. I know she doesn’t mean any harm by it, but I’d rather stay home with her to avoid further problems.
