SEXUAL HARASSMENT LAWYER
Although sexual harassment can occur among equals, the truth is it typically occurs when the harasser has a position of authority or superiority with respect to the victim, who is usually a woman.
The most common example is that of a boss that abuses his position of power over an employee to make sexual advances at her, with the more thickly or thinly veiled threat that she will face issues at work if she does not accept the proposal.
People suffering from sexual harassment are under a very distressful situation which is difficult to bear, and which often leads to psychological problems and depressions caused by the despair of not knowing how to react to the situation.
WHAT TO DO IF…
Sexual harassers always leverage their victim’s fear to their advantage, because they know they have a position of power and can cause them great harm – for example, depriving them of their job and income.
That is why it’s important for any woman suffering from sexual harassment to speak out and tell her family and friends what she is going through, because the harasser has actually put himself in a position of weakness by committing a crime.
Although less frequent, there are cases where women sexually harass men. In these cases, the advice remains the same: respond to the situation by reporting it.
EXAMPLES OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT
My university professor suggested I go to his office to go over some coursework I handed in. When I got there, he closed the door and started making comments about how beautiful I was and how he would like to take me out to dinner some day. I said no and left, and ever since, he gives me lustful looks in class and fails every assignment I hand in.
My boss and I have always had a good relationship. The night of the Christmas party, she said she wanted to have a drink with me. I didn’t think anything of it at first, but she tried to kiss me and I rejected her. Ever since, she’s been making my life miserable, and keeps asking me out to dinner, and telling me that she’s home alone and other similar lewd comments.
I just finished university and I’ve started working as an intern at a company. The guy who’s my supervisor is always striking up sexual conversations and trying to flirt with me. Today he told me that if I want him to put in a good word for me with the boss, I’m going to have to earn it. He then suggested we meet up for drinks.
